The spell hit him squarely in the chest and it’s feeble attempt was just enough. It got him to stop feeding when his legs started to lose their balance. As he fell, he dragged Astoria down with him for she was still leaning against him for support. His muscles had stiffened and he could barely move, but it didn’t stop his intake of breath; so her scent still drove the monster mad.

The back of his throat was screaming in protest, but he couldn’t move to do anything about it. He laid there, just waiting for the second the spell lifted and he could sink his teeth back into that pool of sticky substance.

Astoria didn’t waste any time; she gathered up what strength remained in her weak arms, and pushed herself up. They almost collapsed as she crawled as far away from him as she could. She tried to stand, but her legs failed her. She was panting with exhaustion and she didn’t dare take her eyes off of him as he laid there, deceptively still. Something dripped down the top of her blood-soaked dress, and she felt at the base of her neck the little puncture holes still oozing out her life-substance. Luckily, she was trained for this, and she made a gauze by tearing off the bottom half of her dress.

She could see the sun gradually rising, ushering in the arrival of dawn. She kept a close eye on him in the meantime, thankful that their son never witnessed any of this.

You would think that the space now created between them would be enough to release Draco from his prison, but the smell of fresh blood filled the room with such a height that the bloodthirsty part still held control.

The scorching pain continued to grow, and he tried to move only with little success… Then the agony came. Just as sudden as the first time, but he was unable to yell out so he groaned deeply until it left. His shuddering frame slowly changed it’s physique, changing him back into himself… No more demon. No more pain. No more unquenchable thirst. Just utter stillness.

It took him a few moments to process the transformation and everything that had happened in the past few hours… Astoria! Where was she? How bad did he hurt her? His heart started to race and he struggled against the spell that had quite literally saved his wife’s life, but he needed to see her.

Draco could barely feel or hear her protests; he was completely absorbed by the sweet red fluid that her soft neck so graciously supplied.

His mind was completely blank. There was not a single thought of how much he would regret this later. How much he would hate himself for doing this to her. The magic was in full control now while the real Draco was silenced.

Draco held up her body when it began to droop as he continued to suck the life out of her. The more he consumed, the less hollow and rigid he felt. But the burning in the back of his throat was never fully satisfied. It felt too dry considering all the fluid he already taken in. Her blood. And how it tasted so good to him…

She felt so tired that she would faint right then and there if she even dared to close her eyes and succumb to the numbing fog that’s overtaking her panic. Her heart was pumping faster in a feeble attempt to compensate for the blood loss. This was not the man she loved; he’s gone.. and.. now stood…a monst… Now her thoughts were becoming incoherent as well. She stopped struggling against him, and using the last remaining bit of energy she had, she grasped her wand and pointed it against his chest; all her hopes riding on this next, single spell that would ultimately decide her fate:

    Petrificus Totalus!

The spell hit him squarely in the chest and it’s feeble attempt was just enough. It got him to stop feeding when his legs started to lose their balance. She was too close now. Her scent was too overwhelming. And his throat was burning even hotter than before. He took in one last breath and that was it. It completely dulled the rest of his strength. The bloodthirsty monster took over now. He roughly pulled her into him and bit down on the arc of her neck. Her blood filled his mouth, satisfying his scorching throat, and all he could think about was how he was going to get enough. His body craved her, craved for more as he gripped her tighter.

Astoria gasped when he grabbed her, and a short shrill scream erupted from her throat before she was temporarily silenced by the white-hot pain where his - oh Merlin, where those? - fangs pierced through her skin. She tried to focus her attention on something else, but her mind kept drawing a blank.

She should have known something like this would happen eventually if she kept disregarding his warning to stay away. How could she not have realized it sooner? His whole demeanor screamed of danger, and now she is trapped in the jaws of a man who was barely Draco anymore. She wanted to help him find a remedy, but she never thought for a second that her blood would end up being it.

As he continued to feed, her body was slowly loosing the strength to stand on its own. ‘Stopstopstopstop!’ She panicked and started to push his body away, or tried to at least.

But, of course, I shall respond in the morning!

No! No, no, no, no, he thought over and over again as she walked over to him. STOP! His throat literally felt like it was on fire, and his stomach retracted. The scent of her blood was stronger than ever, and it was starting to dull his mind. As she stood in front of him, it took every ounce of him not to lunge at her; he started to tremble slightly because of it. He stared into her stormy eyes, willing himself to keep his restraint. When she still wouldn’t listen to him, he growled at her through his teeth, “You. Need. To. Leave. Now!” He wanted so badly to run off in the opposite direction but his muscles were locked in place and he was drawn to her, to her blood.

She returned his glare and crossed her arms. As they always did, she felt drawn to his eyes, and unconsciously leaned in towards his face until they were merely inches apart. She could see every detail on his face now. His skin was so, so pale… Briefly her eyes drifted to his lips, but they quickly returned to his eyes.

    “Make. Me. Draco Malfoy.”

Draco shut his eyes and gritted his teeth at her words. This was not the time for her be defiant. But that wasn’t the woman he married. She was never one to take the back seat in anything unless there was a good enough reason.

“Astoria,” he warned. “Please. Leave.” He could only get out so many words before his throat inflamed once again because he breathed in her scent. It was like a wreaking ball each time it hit. Just testing his strength. “It’s- …It’s not…safe,” he managed to get out just barely.

“Draco, I have a wand. And I know how to use it. Whatever this is,” she spread her arms wide in gesture, “I can help you get through it.” She hated to see those whom she loves suffer alone. Maybe it was a stupid thing to do, but she didn’t care. She marched straight over to him, circled around since he was so insistent on hiding and keeping her in the dark about his condition.

“I’m fed up with this. Either you tell me, or else.” She said, in a tone that she rarely, if ever, used. She glared defiantly into his eyes, her blue eyes as cold as the arctic sea.

No! No, no, no, no, he thought over and over again as she walked over to him. STOP! His throat literally felt like it was on fire, and his stomach retracted. Draco stopped once again in his tracks, but refused to move. He locked himself in place, hoping he would be strong enough resist the temptation of… Her blood. He could smell it now. It was a sickly sweet aroma with that same hint of vanilla that he could always distinguish on her. His throat burned painfully, but still, he refused to give in. “Astoria, go!” he said forcefully. “Now!” Two parts of him were fighting against each other. One, that just wanted her blood to stop the burning, and the other that loved her and would never hurt her in any way.

Her throat became dry at his rough, restrained tone. Still, she stood her ground and refused to listen to him. Astoria was not a woman who would run off like a startled deer. True, her Slytherin sense of self-preservation was telling her to run and save herself. But her love for him outweighed and overruled any instinct to flee.

“Dray, I’m not moving an inch until you turn around, look me directly in the eye, and tell me what is going on.”

Draco shut his eyes and gritted his teeth at her words. This was not the time for her be defiant. But that wasn’t the woman he married. She was never one to take the back seat in anything unless there was a good enough reason.

Draco stopped when he heard a noise that just off to his left. His muscles suddenly tightened, hoping desperately that it wasn’t Astoria. He doubted very much that he would be able to control himself around her, and his throat burned hotter as to support that fact.

“Tipsy?” he called uncertainly. He shook his head. What did it matter who was there? He needed to leave. Now. Before he did something he would regret. He stepped back from the doors, for he had drifted toward absentmindedly, and forced himself to keep walking.

“Draco, wait!” Before she knew what came over her, she pushed past the doors that were slightly ajar, and she walked inside until she stood where he previously stood in front of the mirror, only she was facing him. He was acting very suspicious, and as his wife, she had a right to know what was going on.

Draco stopped once again in his tracks, but refused to move. He locked himself in place, hoping he would be strong enough resist the temptation of… Her blood. He could smell it now. There was something else that was off. He felt hollow and still. He couldn’t feel the blood coursing through his veins, he couldn’t hear or feel his heartbeat; just a empty body. It was unnerving to say the least. And he was having trouble deciding whether or not he was starting to miss being a ferret… Draco sighed. At least this wouldn’t last forever right? He ran a hand through his blonde hair and glanced in the mirror once more, as if his reflection would just miraculously appear. But again, nothing but the furnishings. He rolled his eyes, he was taking a risk staying here longer than necessary. So he continued on down the hall.

What she saw made her froze. She thought that when Tipsy said that Draco left, he left to go out. Yet there he was, observing a mirror. Draco looked paler than usual, and as he stood there, she stared at him as her mind tried to put the pieces together. He was pale. He was in front of a mirror. She had heard his scream of agony. When he suddenly turned to move, she became so startled that she accidentally hit the door, and it creaked not so subtly. She inwardly cringed.

    Shite.

The burning in the back of his throat was slowly climbing, and he knew that no simple drink of water was going to quench it. But being able to focus on that meant he could hardly feel the aching pain in his gums anymore, so at least there was that.

Draco dropped his hands, and got up slowly, not wanting to trigger any more sudden bursts of pain. On the wall above the table, held a mirror and Draco turned to it to check out his newly acquired set of teeth. Only the mirror reflected back only his surrounds. Minus of a reflection, Draco’s eyebrows pulled together in confusion. Was this another part of the package? Another strange trait of the unordinary being? He wasn’t sure if he remembered reading that or not…

There they were. Right behind the tall, elaborate double doors. She can sense something feral inside that room, and she stopped for a minute to collect herself. She’s faced dangers before as a student in the past. Granted, she hasn’t been very diligent with practicing her spells, but she didn’t dwell on that thought. ‘Courage is for Gryffindors, but I’m not one to flee even if I was a Slytherin…’

With that final thought, she silently cast a spell that would open the door just a sliver, enough for her to see.

There was something else that was off. He felt hollow and still. He couldn’t feel the blood coursing through his veins, he couldn’t hear or feel his heartbeat; just a empty body.
